About the Area

Boston, MA Community Resources

Serving as the capital and largest city of Massachusetts, Boston is home to vibrant neighborhoods, world-class educational institutions, and high-quality health care. The city is the economic and cultural anchor of a substantially larger metropolitan area known as Greater Boston, with a population of over 4.5 million.
Boston often feels like a small town with all the perks of city life. The city houses a diverse culinary scene, an appreciation for and access to the arts, and proximity to world-class educational institutions, employers, and health care. It is historic but ever-evolving. It is on the cutting edge of medicine and technology but traditional in its love of pastimes like summer nights spent cheering on hometown heroes at Fenway Park. It is a city of sports enthusiasts, art eclectic, and ambitious entrepreneurs coexisting with a sense of camaraderie.
Boston is an exceptional place to play, with numerous attractions such as historical sites, cultural activities, and exciting sporting events. Over 18 million people visit the city annually, making it a leading tourist destination. Boston is the cradle of the 'Boston Tea Party', which formed the first continental congress. The city is packed with museums dedicated to historical events that took place in Boston or its vicinity. The oldest commissioned warship in the world, the U.S.S Constitution, resides in Charleston Naval Yard. Herman Melville wrote his classic 'Moby Dick' in these surroundings and Charles Dickens wrote a majority of "A Christmas Carol" in a hotel in Boston. With memorial sites, parks, and the harbor, Boston is a marvelous place to explore. When visiting Boston, you'll discover neighborhoods with distinct characters, quaint brownstone-lined streets, the beloved Red Sox, and big-city entertainment.
