Find a physician role that fits your needs

Job boards do not care if you are a good fit. We do. Across specialties and subspecialties, the factors that define the right opportunity can look very different. We help you look past the title to what actually determines whether a role works: the compensation structure, call expectations, practice environment, and culture behind the opportunity.

Contract terms, translated

Production formulas, tail coverage, restrictive covenants, and termination language shape the role as much as compensation does. Our consultants help you understand the terms and know what questions to ask before you sign.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

The questions physicians bring us first, answered straight. How we work, what it costs, and what to actually understand before comparing two offers.

Your consultant uses that conversation to identify roles that genuinely fit, considering not only your specialty and clinical background, but your compensation expectations, lifestyle priorities, preferred practice environment, and career goals. From there, your consultant walks you through specific opportunities with real context around the culture, leadership, market, and how the role compares with others in your specialty.

No. Our services are always free to physicians and healthcare providers. The Medicus Firm is paid by the hiring organization, not by the physicians we work with, so our guidance and advocacy on your behalf come at zero cost to you.

Yes. We never contact your current employer, and we never share your information with anyone without your explicit consent. Nothing moves forward, no introductions, no submissions, no conversations, without your knowledge and approval every step of the way.

You choose your first path. You can apply directly to a role that catches your eye, or start with a conversation with a consultant in your specialty, who will take the time to understand what you are looking for in a future opportunity. From there, we continue to align you with opportunities that fit, well beyond the first role you noticed, so your search does not end with a single application.

Base salary is a fixed amount that does not change based on how many patients you see or procedures you perform. RVU-based pay ties your compensation to productivity, measured in relative value units assigned to the services you provide, so your income moves with your clinical volume. An income guarantee is typically used during a transition period, often when joining a new practice or building a patient panel from scratch, where the organization guarantees a minimum income for a set period while you become established, sometimes structured to reconcile against production once that period ends. Your consultant can walk you through how each pay structure is offered. Because compensation structures and benchmarks can vary considerably across physician specialties, your consultant can also provide market context to help you understand how an offer compares within your field.

If your pay includes an RVU component, the conversion factor, the dollar amount paid per RVU, determines what your production actually translates to in take-home pay, and it can vary significantly by specialty, market, and organization. A higher conversion factor doesn't always mean a better offer if the expected RVU volume is lower, so the two figures only mean something together. Bonus structures deserve the same scrutiny: what triggers it, when it's paid, and whether any portion could be reduced or clawed back. Your consultant can help you compare two offers on equal footing rather than at face value.

Tail coverage is malpractice insurance that protects you against claims filed after you've left a position, for care you provided while employed there. It matters because if your malpractice policy is "claims-made" rather than "occurrence-based," you're not automatically covered for a claim filed after departure unless tail coverage is in place, and tail premiums can be substantial. Before signing, it's worth understanding whether your employer covers tail coverage, whether you would be responsible for it, or whether your policy is occurrence-based and doesn't require it at all.

Restrictive covenants, most often non-compete or non-solicitation clauses, can limit where you're permitted to practice, for how long, and whether you may reach out to former patients or colleagues after you leave. Enforceability varies significantly by state, and some states restrict or prohibit physician non-competes altogether, so a clause that would hold up in one state might not in another. Because this affects your options going forward, it's worth having any restrictive covenant reviewed by an attorney before you sign, and your consultant can help you think through what questions to ask.

Because our consultants specialize by client organization, not just by specialty, they build real, firsthand familiarity with the practices and health systems we represent: the leadership, the day-to-day culture, and what it's actually like to work there. This differs from summarizing a job description. It's knowledge built through an ongoing relationship with the organization, not a single conversation with HR.

That is correct. We focus exclusively on permanent placement, so if you are specifically seeking locum tenens or contract work, we will not be the right resource for that search. Every opportunity we bring you is oriented around a lasting fit, not a short-term or temporary assignment. That said, it is worth a conversation with one of our consultants, many physicians who start out looking for locum or contract work discover a permanent opportunity that fits even better.
