Anchorage, AK Community Resources
Anchorage, Alaska, one of America's most livable cities, is located in one of the world's most spectacular settings. Clean, healthy, and vibrant, Anchorage prides itself on being an all-season gateway to adventure and natural beauty. It is the commercial heart of south-central and western Alaska. This prime location gives Anchorage residents the advantage of some of the best views in the world of spectacular mountain, forest, and sea views and access to endless year-round outdoor activities in the breathtaking scenery. Although more than half of Alaska’s population lives here and it’s nearly the size of Delaware, it will be the largest small town you’ll ever live in.
Anchorage (officially called the Municipality of Anchorage), is a unique, year-round destination with once-in-a-lifetime experiences, a place where young spirits and adventurous souls come to play. Step foot on a glacier, fish for king salmon, hike to a mountain vista, fly out to Mount McKinley, cruise in comfort through Prince William Sound, and enjoy hip, metropolitan amenities with frontier flair. Winter, summer, spring, and fall – there’s an opportunity for adventure within minutes of your home.
A high per capita income, low taxes, and a low crime rate are among the positive qualities that have earned Anchorage a place among the country's most livable cities. There is also no sales tax in the city of Anchorage, nor is there a state income tax. Anchorage has been named by Kiplinger as “The most tax-friendly city in the United States.”
Anchorage is a sportsman’s paradise. Although you can’t hunt in Anchorage city limits, there are ample mountains for hunting and rivers for fishing. One of the most popular rivers, Ship Creek, runs right through the heart of downtown.
Traffic is minimal! An average 18-minute commute. Also among the city's pulses: clean air and clean water. World-class parks. Great food, art, and culture. Regular appearances on “Top 10” lists when it comes to jobs and livability.
