About the Area

Oklahoma City, OK Community Resources

From its birth at high noon on April 22, 1889, Oklahoma City, the state capital of Oklahoma, has grown to become one of the nation's largest cities in terms of area. A low unemployment rate, continuing steady economic expansion, and a prime Sun Belt location are attractive to new businesses. Its sunny climate, educational and job opportunities, numerous cultural assets, and recreational attractions entice new residents.
Located in the center of the state, Oklahoma City is unlike any other city in the world. The city offers everything you look for in a modern metropolitan community: an abundance of the arts, quality health care, excellence in education and more. And it does so without high costs, energy shortages, smog or traffic congestion.
It's affordable. It's desirable. It is better living and a better life. As the nation's 29th largest city, residents will find all the things here they are looking for: the ballet, the philharmonic, sports events and outdoor recreation, plus excellence in education and outstanding healthcare facilities. You will find it all without big ticket prices, long lines or traveling long distances. Oklahoma City is one of America's most livable cities. This is an active and activity-filled city.
With the same spirit of the pioneers who settled this city and created one of the most dynamic young towns of the early century, today’s Oklahoma City has been reinvented to offer residents and visitors a fun-filled combination of attractions, events, restaurants and amenities. A billion-dollar renaissance has seen sweeping changes and improvements across nearly every sector. Significant downtown business development has accompanied the renovation of convention, cultural and educational sites. Landmark projects such as the mile-long Bricktown Canal have infused a new life and vibrancy into the Southwest's fastest-growing entertainment district. And neighborhood programs citywide have helped restore historic homes and buildings to their original luster.
