Alexandria, LA Community Resources
Alexandria is situated in the heart of Louisiana on the south bank of the Red River and centrally located in Louisiana, just about 2 hours from most other large cities. Known as "Alex" to locals, people love living in Alexandria for its rich history and cultural events.
Alexandria is a recreational paradise if you're a fan of the outdoors! Enjoy hiking, fishing, boating, and the city's golf courses. The Natchitoches to Alexandria bike route, part of the Louisiana Bike Trails network, is a 62-mile-long path between two of central Louisiana’s largest cities. If you prefer indoor fun, check out the art museums, symphony orchestra, and all the nearby historical spots.
Adjacent to Pineville, LA, Alexandria is where Cajun bonhomie and an annual Mardi Gras celebration thrive among all the amenities of a modern Southern city. A robust sportsman's culture is nurtured by outdoor opportunities at Kisatchie National Forest, nearby bayous, and manmade lakes. The Red River is both cities' focal point, and the Alexandria Levee Park puts festival grounds and an amphitheater right on its banks. Boat tours highlight the river's role in shaping Louisiana history, while annual bass tournaments speak to its lure for fishermen. Lake Buhlow in Pineville features high-speed motorboat racing, and the Alexandria Riverfront Center hosts statewide conventions and galas. History endures in Pineville's stock of intact 19th-century homes and 18th-century cemeteries. In central Louisiana, residents and guests enjoy a treasured, peaceful lifestyle. Diversity is celebrated through food, fun, family, arts, and festivals.
Alexandria and the entire Rapides Parish provide a laid-back lifestyle that may appeal to you. It has many choices for you to buy a home, from being near the downtown core, one of the surrounding suburbs to perhaps a house out in the bayou. Whether you’re looking for a quiet suburb, a trendy urban neighborhood, or a waterfront retreat, Alexandria delivers with affordability.
