About the Area
Munster, IN Community Resources
Just 22 miles southeast of Chicago, Munster is the premier community in Northwest Indiana's "South Shore" area.
The thriving suburban town features top-rated schools, affordable, quality housing, a thriving local economy, and excellent cultural and leisure opportunities. Munster's distinctive quality of life is no accident; it is the result of a commitment to planning and quality that has been the foundation of the town's governance for several decades. The town has become an ideal choice for businesses and for families - not only for its location but, more importantly, because of its proud community spirit.
There is so much to do in Northwest Indiana, and the possibilities are endless! Discover a variety of outdoor adventures, including hiking the majestic dunes, relaxing on the beaches along the shores of Lake Michigan, cycling more than 160 miles of paved trails and rugged terrain, or camping under the stars. The city of Munster offers over 20 beautiful parks located throughout the Town, each unique to the neighborhoods surrounding them. Explore 200 acres of Munster's Centennial Park, featuring a 9-hole corporate golf course, clubhouse with banquet facilities, a 2,000-seat amphitheater, a 3-acre dog park, a variety of gardens, walking and bike paths, playground, soccer fields, special events, and more!
For all the benefits of moving to Munster, one of the biggest advantages is the affordability of houses. Now, and in the future, owning a home costs less in Munster than in any other comparable town in the Chicago area. And not only will your home cost less, but you'll also save thousands of dollars in property taxes over the life of your home versus what you'd pay in Illinois. Education is another big advantage. Today Munster boasts an excellent school system. All five Munster Public Schools, including Munster High School, are recognized Indiana Blue Ribbon schools and have been awarded five-star ratings.
The South Shore region is full of diversity, not only through our residents from a multitude of ethnic and religious backgrounds but through the various natural landscapes and the mix of urban and rural communities you’ll find here. Throughout the area, you’ll discover bustling downtowns and business corridors, quaint rural communities surrounded by miles of farmland, urban areas redefining who they are, and beautiful natural landscapes neighboring towers of industry.

The world's best food. The world's best museums. Architecture that awes. And enough shopping for days. Find it all in Chicago.
Truly a world-class city, and the third largest in the United States, Chicago is the quintessential cosmopolitan city. With almost 3 million people in the city and 5 ½ million in Cook County, Chicago is one of the most culturally rich communities in the country. Each neighborhood maintains a strong identity due to the diversity in its residents with two different neighborhoods often looking like different parts of the world. Located on Lake Michigan and having a river running through downtown, Chicago’s city lifestyle is integrated with the waterways for recreation and charm.
If you enjoy sports, Chicago fulfills every sports enthusiast's wish. Chicago has eight major league sports teams: the Cubs and White Sox (baseball), the Bulls and Chicago Sky (basketball), the Blackhawks (hockey), the Bears (football), and the Chicago Fire and Chicago Red Stars (soccer). Famously known for the incredible 90s Chicago Bulls basketball team, you will have a chance to experience the magic and relate to the era at the United Center Arena.
The city also has its way of celebrating the traditions. Stepping foot in Chicago means you have to be part of the St. Patrick Day celebrations. You will have to join thousands of residents and tourists to celebrate the memory Green Chicago River Day. Being the cradle of dance music, you will have an opportunity to attend outdoor dancing festivals alongside other interesting events like free outdoor food festivals.
