EMG Certified Physical Therapist

Summary: Under the direction of the Board of Directors or designee, observes the electrical activity in nerves using electromyography equipment. Educate patients and/or caretakers by explaining the procedure and results.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts routine Electromyography testing as outlined in department scope of practice, policy, and procedures, and quality assurance standards
  • Operate EMG machine to record electrical activity in peripheral nerves
  • Provides patient instructions, education, and evaluates the patient’s response to testing
  • Outlines the nature of the procedure and test with patients
  • Answers questions patients may have as to hazards or discomforts presented by the test
  • Interfaces professionally and effectively with physicians, fellow staff, and other disciplines to evaluate and modify testing as needed
  • Documents patient information pertinent to testing to ensure comprehensive, timely, and accurate recording, accounting, and reporting of clinical findings
  • Send copies of test results to referring physicians
  • Assists leadership and team members in activities that add value to positive patient outcomes and improve clinical operations
  • Maintain clinic schedule; open, block, adjust as needed
  • Enter all orders electronically
  • Perform examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatments.
  • Provide patient education regarding prescribed and recommended over the counter (OTC) medication
  • Educate the patient and/or family about diagnostic procedures, treatment plans, and provide pre- and post-operative education.
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

  • Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine, Doctorate of Medicine, or Licensed Physical Therapist
  • Proficiency in electromyography-nerve conduction studies, required
  • Certification of completion from of an Accredited Neurodiagnostic Technology program, required
  • Ability to perform in office procedures for musculoskeletal complaints and spasticity, preferred
  • Certification of American Association of Electromyographic Technicians, preferred
  • Required Certifications
    • Act 34 PA Criminal Background
    • Act 151 PA Child Abuse History
    • Act 114 FBI Cogent Clearance Fingerprinting
  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain a positive rapport with patients and colleagues
  • Ability to multitask
  • Possess excellent people skills
  • Self-motivated
  • Flexible team player
