The average salary for a Pediatrician in the United States is $176,414, or around $85 per hour, and the expected job growth rate is 7% by the year 2030. The highest-paying states in the Pediatrics field are Nevada, Minnesota, Wyoming, Utah, and North Dakota. The salary range for these states falls between $208,132, in Nevada, and $219,545, in North Dakota. As is true for any field, your pay will depend greatly upon your location, skill level, and years you’ve been in practice.

Benefits
A major benefit of being a Pediatrician is having the same group of patients for years, and as a result, building relationships with them. Some other benefits of being in this role include being in a well-respected role, positively influencing youth, having inspirational patients, helping children with their ailments, and being compensated at an above-average rate.

Skills
As a Pediatrician, the skills you should possess include (but are not limited to) the following: problem-solving, communication, good bedside manner, teamwork, the ability to relate to children, and empathy.

Job Duties
Throughout your career in Pediatrics, you will do similar things that a primary care physician does, but your patients will typically be between the ages of infancy and 21. You can expect to perform job duties such as diagnosing and treating illnesses, performing routine checkups and examinations, advising patients and their parents/guardians on lifestyle, and using detailed health records to support the health and wellness of patients.

Work Environment
While specializing in Pediatrics, you may work in a hospital, private practice office, community health center, public clinic, school, military, government, or health maintenance organization.

Education
As a physician, you never stop learning new things. The quote, “You learn something new every day,” really comes to fruition when you work in medicine. There is a handful of organizations, both specialty-focused and otherwise, that offer resources for CME, or continuing medical education. These resources can include podcasts, virtual and live conferences, videos, webinars, and virtual and live courses. You can find CME resources through the following organizations (Pediatrics-specific and otherwise): Mayo Clinic, myCME, American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), Nemours Children’s Health, and Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital Continuing Medical Education Department.

Overall, The Medicus Firm is here to help. We want to provide you with the tools you need to further your success.
